The largest country in Africa by land area, the country’s film locations can be divided into the following regions: Central Region; Northwest Region; Northeast Region; Saharan Atlas Region; and the Saharan Region.
Algeria is an offering country when it comes to filming locations, with some of the most amazing ancient attractions in the world. This country hosts numerous World Heritage Sites, it is easy to reach the Roman ruins of Timgad from the city of Batna. The ancient baths and forum at Hippo Regius and the rock paintings of Tassili N’Ajjer are must- sees. Enjoy the Mediterranean sea, or the vast Sahara.
Places of interest include but are not limited to: Tassili N’Ajjer National Park; Casbah; Notre Dame d’Afrique; Bardo Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography; Jardin d’ Essai du Hamma; Ben Aknoun Zoo; Tipaza Ruins and Algerian Beaches.
When to film?
Algeria has a Mediterranean climate, it is best during spring time, from November to April.
ALGERIA COSTS AND TAX INCENTIVES
At present there are no tax incentives for foreign commercials or films shooting in Algeria. Since little filming infrastructure exists all key crew and equipment must be brought in from abroad. Algeria is an ATA carnet country.
ALGERIA TRANSPORT
Main roads are of a reasonable standard. Travelling thru desert areas is slower going and requires extra planning. Domestic air travel is a better option than covering the countries large area by land. Algeria is serviced by several international airlines.
SAFETY
While most visits to Algeria are trouble-free, in certain areas of larger cities incidents of robbery and thefts do occur. Avoid carrying large amounts of money or valuables around with you.
ALGERIA DRONE LAWS
Drone use is allowed in Algeria with the proper permission, but there are several drone laws that need to be followed when flying in the country. A permit is required for recreational and commercial drone use. All foreign operators must have authorization from the Minister of National Defense.
