FILMING ON LOCATION ON ZANZIBAR ISLAND, TANZANIA, EAST AFRICA
Zanzibar is the largest island of Tanzania and sports some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. What a film location! Besides this you can film the rarest primates in Africa, the Colobus, which is found in the Jozani Forest. Leopards, mongoose, bush pigs, monkeys, birdlife and butterflies all make their home in this paradise. The unusual architectural design is another draw card particularly in Stone Town which include Livingstone House, The Old Dispensary and The Old Fort amongst other.
This film location should be considered for TV series, Reality Shows, Commercials, Photo shoots and documentaries. Film permits are issued by The Tanzanian Film Censorship Board and Local Authorities in Zanzibar. The cost, if applied 3 months in advance, is $1,000 and $3,000 if required sooner.
Tourist visa on arrival cost $100 and will suffice for all international crew and talent wishing to enter Zanzibar. International production crew also require a work permit, and this will be handled by the local film fixers on the island.
Production vehicles with drivers are readily available at a cost of $200 – $250 per day. Film equipment if needed will have to be brought in from Kenya. Film crews’ assistants are available in Zanzibar/Tanzania, but Heads of Departments will also have to be brought in from Kenya.
Accommodation is excellent and well-priced, and the food is fantastic. The islanders are friendly and welcoming, so all in all a choice film destination!
